Algeria: “Production of the Sputnik V vaccine will begin in the coming weeks”

The Director General of the National Pharmaceuticals Agency (ANPP), Kamel Mansouri, announced last night, during his appearance on public television, that production of the Russian vaccine “Sputnik V” will begin in Algeria in the weeks to coming, adding that it was time for Algeria to move from the status of importer of vaccines to exporter.

Mansouri said that talks with the Russian side had reached a “very advanced stage to start the production process of the Sputnik V vaccine in Algeria in the coming weeks”, adding that the process would take place in partnership between the public company Saidal and private Algerian companies which have the necessary expertise in the production of drugs.

In this regard, the director general of the National Agency for Pharmaceuticals declared that Algeria “will work, initially, to cover the national demand for this vaccine, and we aspire in a second stage to export it, especially to neighboring countries ”.

As for his evaluation of the pharmaceutical production process in Algeria, Kamel Mansouri affirmed: “We have achieved in a short time positive results and reduced the import bill, and today we are looking to increase the share of exports to the country. ‘foreign”.
