Tunisia-United States: Inauguration of a Production Plant for the American Automobile Manufacturer “Visteon”

The new unit, which will produce 20,000 parts per day for vehicle components, was carried out with investments of around $65 million, including $15 million for buildings and $50 million for facilities.

A production unit of the American automobile manufacturer “Visteon” was inaugurated yesterday at the technological center of Borj Cédria (Ben Arous). This unit will allow the creation of 400 jobs by 2024 and 1,000 new direct jobs by 2028.

The inauguration ceremony was attended by the Minister of Industry, Mines and Energy, Fatma Thabet Chiboub, the general director of “Visteon” Tunisia, Hichem Ben Ghorbel, and the United States Ambassador to America, in Tunis, Joey Hood.

Ben Ghorbel stressed that the new unit which will produce 20 thousand parts per day for vehicle components was carried out with investments of around 65 million dollars, including 15 million dollars (building) and 50 million dollars ( facilities).

The official recalled that the company “Visteon”, specializing in the automotive electronics industry, is located in the American state of Michigan and has several branches in several countries around the world, including Tunisia.

The Minister of Industry, for her part, underlined that the technological center of Borj Cédria was chosen for the realization of this project because it is a space designed to house companies with a strong capacity for employability and high added value with high-level technological components.

The center also stands out for several other characteristics, the most important of which are simple and easy administrative procedures. This choice is also explained, according to her, by its position close to several institutions working in the field of scientific and technological research.

It also helps to support the field of scientific research, develop the knowledge economy and create new jobs.

The Ambassador of the United States of America in Tunis, Joey Hood, declared that the cooperation between “Visteon” and Tunisia corroborates the vitality of the economic partnership between Tunisia and the United States of America, especially that Tunisia has in recent years created an appropriate business environment through which it has attracted foreign direct investment.

The opening of a production unit belonging to the American automobile supplier in Tunisia reflects the competence of the Tunisian workforce and the strategic position of the country, the American diplomat further indicated.
