The president of the National Authority for the Protection of Personal Data (INPDP), Chawki Gaddes, returned, this Wednesday, October 26, 2022, to the complaint filed by the authority against the transport company by mobile application operating in Tunisia, Bolt, for offenses concerning the confidentiality of the private data of its customers.

Speaking on Mosaïque FM, Mr. Gaddes said that Bolt has been the subject of several complaints from citizens since last summer, which prompted the INPDP to issue a press release concerning the violations of this company and d others in the same industry.

According to him, Bolt collects and processes citizens’ data, then transmits them abroad without carrying out the necessary legal procedures for this purpose.

Gaddes, moreover, considered that it is a violation of national sovereignty.

“According to the information we had at the beginning [about Bolt], the data of users of this company is stored in Estonia, which is a country that protects personal data, but some journalistic reports revealed that it had been disclosed to other countries like Israel, which is a flagrant violation of the law, ”he said.

And to add that given the fact that his authority cannot apply sanctions, it was decided to file a complaint against the company in question.

Gaddes finally pointed out that the other mobile application transport companies have been granted additional time to regularize their situation because their legal representatives have contacted the INPDP and expressed their commitment to correct their legal situation.
