TAMANRASSET-Premier Abdelmalek Sellal, who is on a working and inspection visit to the province of Tamanrasset on Thursday, has inaugurated a gas processing plant in Hassi-Moumene (43 km from In-Salah).

Implemented part of a partnership between Sonatrach group and ISG-Petrofac, this energy plant has a production capacity of 14 million m³.

On site, the Premier stressed the need to increase gas output and break with the “classical” pumping-export conception of gas industry with a view to moving towards a new vision of the petrochemical industry.

Such a vision will allow us no more rely on gas export as raw material but rather on petrochemical industry that “brings added value,” stressed Sellal.

“Algeria must urgently engage in an emerging economy in the 21 century according to the President of the Republic Abdelaziz Bouteflika’s instructions,” he said.

During his meeting with the works and executives of the plant, mostly originating from southern provinces, the Premier affirmed that “state’s policy is based on employment of youth from south provinces,” calling on executives of this energy plant to hire graduates from universities in southern provinces to meet their recruitment needs, and resort to recruitment from other provinces if needed.
