Algeria: Lamamra receives North Korea’s Deputy FM

Minister of State, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Ramtane Lamamra has received, Monday in Algiers, the Deputy Foreign Minister of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea, Sin Hong Chol.

The audience was an opportunity to assess economic cooperation between the two countries and to explore means for their development.

In a statement to the press following the discussions, Hong Chol said that he focused with Lamamra on the development of the long-standing relations between Algeria and North Korea.

For his part, Lamamra said that relations between the two countries go back to the glorious national Liberation War, and have further developed within the framework of the Non-Aligned Movement.

He also underlined their convergence of views in the support of just causes in the world, adding “we seek to give more importance to our economic cooperation.”

In this regard, Lamamra said that the two sides have agreed to set up a joint economic committee, which “we hope would hold its first session the soonest possible,” he added.

The discussions were also an opportunity for the two sides to exchange views on international issues of common interest.

The Secretary General of the Foreign Ministry, Hassene Rabehi co-chaired with Chol the works of the first session of political consultations between the two countries.

During this session, the two sides examined bilateral and multilateral issues of common interest.
