Qatar Offers Visa-Free Entrance to 80 Countries, Maghreb’s countries Not Included

Maghreb’s countries is not included in Qatar’s newly launched visa-free program, which allows easy entry for citizens of 80 countries to encourage its tourism and air transport sectors, announced Qatar Tourism Authority today.

 

Amid an ongoing boycott imposed on the country by its Gulf neighbors, Qatar opened its borders to the 80 countries, who can enter the gas rich country and host of 2022 soccer World Cup using a valid passport only.

The visa exemption scheme “will make Qatar the most open country in the region,” said Hassan al-Ibrahim, Chief Tourism Development officer at Qatar Tourism Authority, during a press conference in Doha.

“With 80 countries eligible for a visa waiver, Qatar is now the most open country in the region and we are delighted to invite visitors to discover our renowned hospitality, cultural heritage and natural treasures,” added the official.

The country has opened it doors to 33 countries with visa-free entry valid for 180 days. Citizens from these countries, including Germany, France, Turkey, can spend up to 90 days in the Gulf state, either on a single trip or in multiple trips.

The 180-day free visa scheme does not include any Arab country.

For 47 countries, the free visa is valid for 30 days, starting the date of issuance. The Qatar Tourism Authority said that for these countries, which include the United States, South Africa, and Lebanon, the visa can be extended for a further 30 days.

Maghreb’s countries citizens are not included in the new visa scheme.

The decision came after the Gulf State made a four-day transit visas available to Qatar Airways passengers, regardless of their nationalities.

The Qatar Tourism Authority also said that it is considering waiving visa requirements for people who possess a residence permit or a valid visa from GCC nations.

Qatar considers also considers granting residence of the US, UK, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, and the Schengen countries visas on arrival.
