Algeria-Qatar: The Construction of a Chemical Complex Mentioned

The Minister of Energy and Mines, Mohamed Arkab, received in audience the Ambassador of the State of Qatar, Abdelaziz Ali Al-Nuaima. The meeting, which took place on Thursday, August 17, 2023 at the ministry ‘s headquarters , highlighted common aspirations to develop bilateral cooperation in the strategic sectors of energy and mining.

At the heart of the discussions between the two parties, the prospects for collaboration in the field of energy and mining were explored in depth. Relations between the two nations have been described as excellent, providing a solid foundation for future partnerships. Algeria and Qatar have identified promising opportunities to expand their cooperation, particularly in the field of processing industries and the development of the petrochemical industry.

One of the key projects discussed during this meeting is the construction of a chemical complex intended for the production of essential raw materials such as Butene and Polybutene. This project, led by the Qatari company Power International Holding, will be carried out in partnership with the Algerian company Sonatrach. This collaboration reflects the desire of both parties to carry out major initiatives aimed at strengthening industrial capacities and economic diversification.

Mohamed Arkab spoke enthusiastically about these developments, conveying the importance of cooperation between the two countries and their mutual commitment to large-scale projects. The Minister also highlighted the alignment of these initiatives with Algeria’s national strategy aimed at developing processing industries and maximizing the development of the country’s energy resources.

The Minister also highlighted the benefits offered by Algeria’s new hydrocarbons law, designed to attract investors and stimulate exploration, production and the development of processing industries. This initiative is part of a long-term vision for economic growth and job creation.

In response, the Qatari ambassador expressed his satisfaction with the quality of relations between the two countries and underlined the commitment of Qatari companies to invest in Algeria in accordance with the new hydrocarbons law. He also highlighted the interest of these companies in carrying out major projects in the fields of research, exploration and the petrochemical industry.
