Algerian artist Takfarinas is making his comeback on the music scene, after a decade of silence, with the release, on June 18, of his double album. “My mother, Algeria”, “My heart is love” and “My Kabylity”, are the three cries of the heart of the Algerian star of world music, which is now in the bins. The artist’s last album, “Lwaldine” (Homage to Parents), was released in 2011.
After a decade of silence, the Algerian world music star Takfarinas, whose real name is Hacène Zermani, is back in the fold for the promotion of his albums, “My mother, Algeria”, “My Kabylity” and “My heart. , it’s love”. For this opus of 21 songs, already ready in 2019, but whose release has been postponed for “because of the political situation in the country and then the Coronavirus pandemic”, the artist is accompanied by several rising stars of music, to say “the groove, the feeling, the pleasure, the moral, the hard tooth and the tender heart”.
“I am not an engineer who can invent a space shuttle, but, musically, I am a meteorite capable of igniting this country, as long as I am allowed to do it my way … I took the risk and worked for months with 45 musicians without having any written commitment and at the end the project evaporated for no reason or explanation”, he laments, while keeping the hope of touring through Algeria “for show what we are capable of”.
In this album, one song attracts particular attention. The artist insists in fact on his origins, Kabylia. And “My Kabylity” is in the eyes of many Algerians, a call to union, to pride, but also to a patriotic commitment to its land.
