Morocco has decided to buy the frigate Fremm named after Carlo Bergamini, an Italian admiral of the Regia Marina who served during the two world wars, reports Far-Maroc, a Moroccan site specializing in defense issues. This frigate is used in anti-submarine warfare.

This future acquisition is part of the “OMEGA” program set up by Morocco. A project intended to modernize and equip the Royal Navy with new warships, including those specializing in anti-submarine warfare, to defend its two maritime facades in the Mediterranean in the Atlantic.

The Royal Moroccan Navy has a French multi-mission Fremm delivered in 2014. This is the Mohammed VI frigate, still in service.
