Welcoming the efforts made within the framework of the peace process in Western Sahara, with a view to the application of Security Council resolutions, Qatar gave its position on this conflict.

The representative of the State of Qatar, during his address to the 4th Committee of the United Nations General Assembly, praised the efforts made to find a consensus within the framework of the political process initiated in 2007 under the auspices of the Secretary-General and his Personal Envoy for the implementation of Security Council resolutions, wrote the Moroccan newspapers.

Recalling the declaration of the Summit of the Cooperation Council of the Gulf countries and Morocco, Qatar, notes the Moroccan press, attests that the autonomy initiative presented by the Kingdom constituted the basis of any solution to this regional conflict. Which conflict integrates Algeria which militates for the autonomy of the Sahara. The position only exacerbates the tension between Morocco and neighboring Algeria.

Stressing the need for the General Assembly to support the efforts aimed at bringing the political process to a successful conclusion and to preserve the consensual character of the resolution to be considered by the 4th Committee in this regard, the representative of Qatar further assured that a political solution to this long-lasting conflict will have positive repercussions on strengthening cooperation between the countries of the region and establishing stability and security in general, the newspapers note.

It should be noted that as part of the resolution of this conflict, the UN has invited Morocco, Algeria, Mauritania, and the Polisario Front to Switzerland for talks. These discussions are scheduled for December 4 and 5, in Geneva.
