Emmanuel Macron and Marine Le Pen are through to the run-off vote in the closely-fought French presidential election.

French media projections say Emmanuel Macron and Marine Le Pen are through to the run-off vote in the closely-fought French presidential election.

Centrist Macron is said to have scored 23.7% in Sunday’s first-round ballot and far-right leader Le Pen 21.7%.

A run-off vote will be held on May 7.

The right-wing candidate Francois Fillon is said to have scored 19.5% and the far-left candidate Jean-Luc Melanchon also 19.5%.

The Socialist contender Benoit Hamon is said to have scored just 6.2% of the vote.
