CAN 2025: Algeria Already a Candidate, Morocco Is Also Considering It

Less than 24 hours after the announcement by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) of the withdrawal of the organization of CAN 2025 from Guinea, the suitors are already jostling to replace the country of Syli. 

The president of CAF, Patrice Motsepe, has indicated that a dozen countries have expressed their interest. Among them will be Algeria, said the Algerian Minister of Youth and Sports, Abderrazak Sebgag, on the sidelines of the draw for CHAN 2022 that his country will host next January.

“It is time for Algeria to organize major events, we are going to present a good file to organize the 2025 African Cup of Nations. We are going to prove that Algeria is capable of doing it. The CAF inspection delegation was satisfied with the sports facilities for the CHAN 2022 African Nations Championship that Algeria will host next January. We will defend our candidacy until the end,” warned the politician in remarks reported by the APS.

The same ambition with the Moroccan neighbor, even if no public announcement has yet taken place. “Morocco’s candidacy is part of the order of things. The Kingdom has the infrastructure sine qua non for the organization of major international sporting events,” revealed an anonymous source within the Moroccan Football Federation, quoted by the Le360 website.
