Morocco-Western Sahara: New Drone Attack in Gleibat El Foula

According to Moroccan media, a Moroccan army drone struck two Polisario Front vehicles on Friday in Gleibat El Foula, about 150 kilometers east of Dakhla, beyond the Moroccan FAR defense wall. “The vehicles had Mauritanian license plates and were located east of the sand wall erected by the FAR,” they said.

“The attack left some Polisario militiamen injured, but no deaths were reported,” he said. “On the Mauritanian side, no casualties were reported, although Polisario supporters claimed in audio messages that the FAR had attacked Mauritanian civilians. However, media in Zouerate, Mauritania, did not report any Mauritanian casualties.”

Earlier this year, a drone attack was carried out in the same area, targeting Sahrawi and Mauritanian gold prospectors. Morocco accuses the Polisario of using civilian vehicles for reconnaissance missions on the sand wall behind which Moroccan army units are entrenched.
