World Neighborhood Championship in France: Algeria Wins the Title

While all eyes are on the Euro 2024 European Football Championship, another symbolic football competition was played in parallel in France: the Mondial des quartiers, held at the Gibjoncs in Bourges. And it was Algeria that won the final.

The World Cup of Neighborhood Football, which began on June 28 at the Yves-du-Manoir stadium in Gibjoncs, Bourges, in the heart of France, delivered its verdict on Saturday, July 6. The final of the third edition of this competition was played between France and Algeria.

And it was the Algerian team that won the trophy, reported the local newspaper Le Berry Rรฉpublicain on Sunday, July 7. With 21 teams in the running, the competition closed with a beautiful final between Algeria and France last night in the Yves du Manoir stadium.

Algeria wins the final of the World Cup of districts

In the two previous editions of the World Cup of neighborhoods, France had lost respectively to Congo (2023) and Morocco (2022). At the end of the third edition, the host country once again missed its final against Algeria, finalist for the first time.

The two teams had already faced each other in the semi-finals and quarter-finals in previous editions, recalls the same source.

In this final, and after a match that ended in a tie (4-4), the final verdict was decided by penalty shootout. This is how the Algerian team won the final of the World Cup of Neighborhoods. The team received a check for 2,000 euros.
