Automotive: Italian Equipment Manufacturer Sigit Arrives in Algeria

Italian equipment manufacturer Sigit will produce automobile spare parts in Algeria. A memorandum of understanding was signed by this company and the Algerian public group ENPC (Plastic and Rubber) to produce automobile components in Algeria.

This was announced this Sunday, December 10, by the public holding company ACS in a press release. The signing of this agreement is part of the “ materialization of the orientations ” of the government aimed at “ multiplying efforts to support the automobile industry in Algeria ”.

Algeria also aims to increase the “ level of national integration through the search for experienced economic partners, with proven technological and industrial potential on an international scale, to produce components and spare parts automobile in AlgeriaI,” according to the press release.

Automobile: Sigit will produce automobile components in Algeria

Sigit specializes in the production of plastic structures and components for major automotive brands such as Fiat, Geely, and Volkswagen. The first brand will soon complete its assembly plant in Oran and the first Fiat assembled in Algeria will be released there before the end of 2023.

The agreement between Sigit and ENPC concerns the “ creation of a joint venture for the production of plastic and rubber components and structures intended for the automotive industry ”. This mixed company will then extend its activity to “ paints and glass ”, according to the press release which specifies that the Sigit factory will “ most likely be located in the wilaya of Oran  ”. The amount of the investment as well as the capacity of the Sigit factory in Algeria were not specified in the press release.

Present at the signing ceremony of this agreement, Lorenzo Manoni, technical general director and head of development of Sigit, said he was “ confident of the success of this project ” and expressed the “ readiness of his company to support this project in all its dimensions, technical and industrial, including technological transfer in their field of expertise to Algeria.
