Algerians Third Largest Expats in Morocco

With 6.8 percent of foreign residents living in Morocco, Algerian represent the third largest foreign expat community, after the French at 25.4 percent, and the Senegalese representing 7.2 percent, according to the  Moroccan High Commission of Planning’s recent report on foreign residents in Morocco.

French, Senegalese, and Algerians represent the majority of foreign nationals living in Morocco.

Out of a population of 33.8 million registered in 2014, the number of foreign expats residing in Morocco was 84,001 inhabitants, an increase of 32,566 over 2004, according to the HCP. They represent 0.25 percent of the total Moroccan population.

From 2004-2014, the foreign expat population  grew exponentially by 63 percent.

40 percent of foreign expats are Europeans, while 41.6 percent are African, 64.5 percent of whom are from Sub-Saharan countries and 31.9 percent are from the Maghreb.

15.2 percent of foreign expats were from the continent of Asia, with 82.8 percent of those coming from the Middle East.

3.2 percent of foreign expats hailed from the rest of the world, 76.9 percent of whom from the United States.
