Algeria joins the group of “friendly countries of the Economic Community of Central African States”

LIBREVILLE- The Ambassador of Algeria to Gabon and Equatorial Guinea Mohamed Antar Daoud presented his Lettres de Cabinet to the Secretary General of the Economic Community of Central African States (ECCAS), Mr. Allam Mi, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to this regional African institution, it is learned Wednesday from a diplomatic source.

In the interview following the presentation ceremony, the Secretary-General of ECCAS expressed his “great satisfaction” at seeing Algeria join “Les amis de l’ECCAS” while waiting for observer status to do so. Subject to discussion, be approved by the Heads of State and be granted to it.

Most important, Allam Mi said, is that officially, “today, Algeria is in our entity whose primary mission is to establish mechanisms indispensable to the development of the subregion.”

For his part, Mr. Daoud highlighted “the role of Algeria as an exporter of peace and stability and its determination to establish friendly and cooperative ties with all African countries based on the principles of The Charter of the United Nations “.

Insisting on the importance accorded by the President of the Republic, Abdelaziz Bouteflika, to South-South cooperation, the ambassador recalled in this context the recent signing of the Algerian-Gabonese air agreement allowing the two air companies Algeria and Tassili Airlines to serve Libreville in the coming weeks.

The agreement, the Algerian diplomat said, will be a bridge between two countries belonging to the same continent with the same natural resources and other complementary raw materials.

By this accession, Algeria thus joins “Friends of ECCAS”, the status of observer does not currently exist in the statutes of this organization which counts eleven countries: Angola, Burundi, Cameroon, the Central African Republic, Congo, Gabon, Equatorial Guinea, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Sao Tome and Principe, Chad and Rwanda.

In addition to Algeria, the group of ECCAS friendly countries includes eleven (11) countries: the United States, Russia, Japan, China, Germany, Spain, France, Italy, Turkey, Egypt and Morocco) ) Representatives of international organizations such as the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), the International Organization of the Francophonie (OIF), African Union and the European Union.

All these states and international institutions can be involved and finance community development projects in fields as diverse as transport, energy, water, information and communication technologies and the environment.
ECCAS was established in October 1983 to promote and strengthen harmonious co-operation and balanced and self-sustained development in the fields of economic and social activity, Industry, transport and communication, energy, agriculture, natural resources, trade, customs, monetary and financial issues, human resources, tourism, education, culture, Science and technology, to raise the standard of living of the people, to increase and maintain economic stability, to strengthen the close peaceful relations between member states, and to contribute to the progress and development of the African continent.
