Algeria: number of importers stagnates while of exporters rising in 2016

ALGIERS – The foreign trade sector counted 43,418 operators in 2016, consisting of 41,788 importers and 1,630 exporters, whose number increased by more than 31% compared to 2015. The statistics are obtained by the APS from the National Center for the Registry of (NRC).

Of the 1,630 exporters, 379 are under the status of natural persons, an increase of almost 22% compared to 2015, and 1,251 as legal persons (companies), up by more than 34%.

Exporters are divided into four product categories: exports of agri-food products (50%), industrial and non-hydrocarbon manufactures (23%), non-hydrocarbon products (21%) and pharmaceuticals (6%).

The number of importers was virtually stagnant in 2016 compared to the year before, with an increase of only 0.5%.

These importers are divided into 160 activities and are registered mainly in the importation of hardware and products related to the hardware, drugstore, household and hygiene (562 operators), clothing (534), Equipment and equipment related to the field of electricity and electronics (496) and equipment, materials and products related to the field of construction and public works.

In addition, there are 247 registered importers of fruit and vegetables, 185 importers of dried vegetables and flour mill products, 177 importers of sugar, tea, coffee, cocoa and spices and 148 Import of biscuits, chocolate and confectionery.

As a reminder, after having been registered in the commercial register under the single name import-export, since September 2015, import activities for resale unprocessed and exported have been split into two activities.

The current Decree on the Nomenclature of Economic Activities (NAE), which has been entered in the Commercial Register, introduced new provisions, in particular the creation of a new sector of activity specific to export, and the Possibility for any economic operator to carry out the export.

This text, which came in application of the provisions of Article 23 of the Law on the Conditions for the Exercise of Commercial Activities, 2004, sets out the content, the articulation and the conditions for the management and updating of This nomenclature.

The NAE reorganization, which includes all the activities that must be registered in the trade register, is in line with the objective of better regulation and organization of economic activities and constitutes an instrument focusing on the dissemination of Economic information.

The NAE, which is subject to registration in the Commercial Register, consists of the following sectors: production of goods, artisanal production, wholesale distribution, import for resale in the state, distribution in retail (sedentary And non-sedentary), services and export.
