“Algeria, guest of its desert” event to start on 26 Dec. in Djanet

ALGIERS – The second edition of “Algeria, guest of its desert” event will be organized from 26 December 2016 to 2 January 2017 in the region of Djanet with the participation of over 800 young people members of charity associations, said General Director of Youth at Sports Ministry, Samia Benmaghsoula.

The event is intended to “make known the tangible and intangible heritage of the South and encourage youth tourism,” said Benmaghsoula on Thursday in Algiers at the end of a training session Youth Bodies Officials.

More than 800 young people aged between 18 and 35 representing charity associations from 48 provinces will take part in this event, which aims to “promote domestic tourism through several sports, artistic and cultural activities, including fantasia shows (traditional equestrian shows),” she added.

Giving an outline of the programme of the Youth Directorate-General activities for 2017, she said that a rich and varied program has been set up, including the celebration of Yennayer (Berber new year in January 2017 in the region of Beni Snous in Tlemcen, in collaboration with the High Commission for Tamazight, to perpetuate the tradition and to highlight the Berber dimension of the Algerian identity.

A caravan bringing together some 2000 young people from different regions of the country will visit the border regions- where Algerian soldiers are deployed-, to become aware of their effective role in the protection of the national territory, Benmaghsoula added.

On 24th February 2017, the young people will visit an oil field in Tinguentourine and a national meeting of the youth associative movement will be held in Algiers on 2 and 3 March 2017, the official said.
