Algiers: Former Minister of Culture Khalida Toumi will appear in court on January 20 at the Sidi M’hamed court in Algiers, where Khalida Messaoudi is being prosecuted for corruption and waste of public funds.

Khaleda Toumi has been in pre-trial detention for more than two years, which his lawyer denounced, deeming it against the law.

Boudjemaa Ghashir, the minister’s lawyer, had previously called for justice for the former culture minister, stressing that his detention for such a period pending investigation was illegal, sending a message to President Tebboune for that he looks at his client’s case.

For reference, Toumi faces corruption charges linked to protests in Algeria, the capital of Arab culture, at the African Cultural Festival, and in Tlemcen, the capital of Islamic culture.
