Morocco Algeria: The American magazine “Defense News” revealed that Morocco is building a new air defense base northeast of the capital, Rabat.
The American magazine specializing in defense industries said: “Satellite images show that Morocco is building a new air defense base in Sidi Yahya al-Gharb (region) 60 km northeast of the capital, Rabat.
The magazine cited a source, who declined to be named, confirming the construction of the base, but declined to reveal the exact coordinates of its construction site, on national security grounds.
Defense News reported that Morocco purchased “the French short-range missile defense system in December 2017 and signed a contract worth US $ 226 million with European missile maker MBDA for the purchase of the vertical missile launch system in 2019”.
Moroccan military affairs expert Mohamed Choucair said the military base was built about a kilometer from Rabat.
Choucair explained to Anatolia that al-Qaeda’s main function is to train in the use of defensive systems, for which Morocco has formulated its strategy, especially after tensions in the region with Algeria.
Last November, the Israeli occupation state and Morocco signed a memorandum of understanding on security during the visit of Israeli Defense Minister Benny Gantz to Rabat, aimed at organizing intelligence cooperation, security procurement, and joint training.
In early December, a Spanish intelligence report revealed that the latest Moroccan-Israeli security agreement provided for the construction of a military base and an aircraft factory in Rabat.
