The maintenance workers of the public airline Air Algérie suspended the strike that began on Tuesday morning, 16 May, and resumed work after meeting with the company’s general management, which promised to take over their claims, reported The daily El Khabar.

All the domestic and international flights of Air Algérie departing from all the airports of Algeria were suspended Tuesday morning because of this strike.

The president of the National Union of Aircraft Maintenance Technicians (SNTMA), Mr. Boudoumi, explained to the PSA that the socio-occupational demands presented during these negotiations concerned the prioritization of maintenance staff positions as defined by The new collective agreement.

According to him, the current collective agreement is detrimental to this occupational category, since maintenance personnel are classified in third place after that of the stewards and flight attendants, knowing that the first position rests with the pilots.

In this sense, they are demanding that the category of maintenance personnel be positioned between that of the pilots and that of stewards and air hostesses.

According to Boudoumi, Bakhouche Alleche, the interim general manager of Air Algeria, proposed during the negotiations a one-year delay before taking a decision on these grievances, given the situation Financial difficulty of this company.

Mr Alleche’s proposal will be brought to the attention of the maintenance workers, according to Mr Boudoumi, and from there it will be decided whether the strike should continue or be lifted.

The program of the flights of Air Algérie from Algiers which was planned for the day of Tuesday concerned 29 flights to the international and 39 domestic flights.

On Tuesday alone, six flights that were scheduled to take off from Algiers International Airport to Paris, Marseille, Barcelona, Madrid, Tunis and Casablanca respectively were blocked.

On the other hand, the flight Constantine-Marseille and that of Oran-Alger could be made Tuesday morning, according to the same source.
