Algeria will allocate 100,000 security men as part of a comprehensive plan to secure parliamentary elections scheduled for 4 May, a security source said.

The Anadolu Agency quoted the source, who asked not to be named because he was not authorised to speak to the media, as saying: “At the end of March, Prime Minister Abdelmalek Sellal presided over a meeting between Interior Minister, Noureddine Badawi, with the Director General of National Security and the Commander of the National Gendarmerie, Major General Ned Nuba, to discuss the issue of securing the legislative elections which will be held on May 4.”

The source added: “It was decided at the meeting to recruit 70,000 police officers, and 30,000 members of the National Gendarmerie” to secure the elections.
