The Director-General of Electricity and Energy Transition, at the Ministry of Industry, Belhassen Chiboub, excluded, this Wednesday, May 18, 2022, the information relayed about the request of the Algerian company, Sonatrach, to the Tunisian State, to pay 10 billion dinars before the end of July.

In an interview this morning with Shems, Chiboub asserted that this information is devoid of truth, pointing out that the Tunisian state is bound by a contract with Sonatrach for the supply of gas.

The Algerian oil and gas company provides between 45 and 50% of Tunisia’s needs.

Belhassen Chiboub indicated that the provisional bill for the year 2022 was estimated at 3 billion dinars.

Regarding the increase in electricity and gas tariffs, he considered that these increases were inevitable in order to rationalize consumption.
