The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Migration and Tunisians Abroad has announced that Tunisia has been elected as a member of the African Union (AU) Peace and Security Council for the period 2022-2024.

This is what emerges from his press release published on Thursday and relayed by the Tunis Afrique Presse Agency (TAP/official).

Tunisia has just been elected at the end of “the elections which took place in the Ethiopian capital, Addis Ababa on the occasion of the 40th session of the Executive Council of the Union.”

In a statement, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Migration and Tunisians Abroad wrote: “Tunisia’s election as a member of this important African body is further proof of the respect it enjoys at the regional level. It demonstrates confidence in its ability to contribute effectively to the establishment of international peace and security, particularly on the African continent,” TAP reported.

Indeed, fifteen members were selected as part of the renewal of the composition of the Council of the African Union.

“Tunisia demonstrated when it was a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council, its concern to make Africa’s voice heard within the organization,” the statement added.

She has always worked to put African issues on her list of priorities, TAP reported quoting the foreign affairs department.
