Algeria and Cameroon face each other at the end of March in the qualifying play-offs for the 2022 World Cup. A month and a half before the meeting, the Cameroonians are launching psychological warfare.

The president of their Cameroon Football Federation, Samuel Eto’o, started to motivate the Indomitable Lions right after their elimination from the AFCON on Thursday evening.

The two selections left the African competition without realizing their objective which was to lift the trophy.

Algeria was ingloriously eliminated in the first round and Cameroon came up against Egypt in the semi-finals (0-0, 3 pens to 1). But they still have the qualifying ticket for the World Cup that they will compete in March back and forth.

This is a primary objective for both selections. Samuel Eto’o, the president of Fecafoot, went to remind the Cameroonian players in the locker room just after the end of the semi-final against the Pharaohs. The former Barcelona player seems aware that now is not the time to criticize or turn things upside down. He first congratulated the team for their performance.

“I want to say thank you. We are eliminated today, but I am convinced that I won a gold team. In pain, we grow. Don’t lower your head. In the penalty shootout, anything can happen, but in the game, you were so good that I can only say thank you,” he said straight away.

Eto’o then talks about the Indomitable Lions’ next goal, which is to go to the World Cup.

“Don’t lower your head, tell yourself that we have started a journey that should take us to Qatar. It will be hard in the next few hours but you are competitors. You have earned this jersey full of history, don’t lower your head. Some who don’t understand football, because we are a country of 27 million coaches, will criticize, don’t listen. We know where we’re going, I promise you, you’ll see. Saturday, we continue our journey (match for third place, editor’s note) and especially in March, we go to Qatar, we start our journey to Qatar,” he added.

During the CAN 2021 organized by his country, Samuel Eto’o multiplied the thunderous declarations. The latest was when he tried to motivate the Cameroonian players by calling the match against Egypt a war, which earned him a lot of criticism.
