The United States Will Continue Its Military Support for Tunisia

The American Assistant Secretary of Defense for African Affairs, Jennifer Zakriski, visited Tunisia at the head of a high-level military delegation, to take part in the thirty-sixth session of the Tunisian-American Joint Military Commission, which ended last Wednesday, February 7, 2024.

This is what the Ministry of Defense announced on Monday, February 12, in the report of the meeting, held on Friday, February 9, between Zakriski and Minister Imed Memmich, during which the latter underlined the links strong ties between Tunisia and the United States, welcoming the results obtained at the end of the annual meeting on the review of joint military activities and exercises.

The review concluded last with the approval of a series of updates and activities planned between the two parties for the coming period. The minister indicated that Tunisia counts on its capabilities to face security challenges, as well as on international cooperation with Western countries, particularly with the United States, adding that “the regular convening of the Joint Military Commission testifies to the willingness of both sides to further coordinate their joint efforts and support bilateral relations and cooperation programs.

For his part, Zakriski indicated that this meeting was an opportunity to assess the solid military relations between the two countries and expressed his country’s continued support for Tunisia in the development of the operational capabilities of the military institution in several sectors related to training, exchange of expertise, technical assistance and the provision of equipment adapted to non-traditional threats and border protection.

The meeting took place in the presence of the American ambassador to Tunisia and senior military officials from both sides, according to the same source.
