Chaillac. Marie-Anne Guibert publishes a novel which looks back on the story of her great-grandmother in Algeria.

Marie-Anne Guibert, who lives in Chaillac, is a retiree who has several passions, including artistic painting and, for many years, writing. Her first book Fatma, l’Enfant du régiment, talks about her great-grandmother.

Retired physiotherapist Marie-Anne Guibert, who practiced in Paris, retired to a rural environment, to the village of Colombier, in Chaillac, for a well-deserved retirement.

A life shunned by the family

This dynamic person is very active. In addition to painting landscapes of the region and writing, she has given lectures in Chaillac and Saint-Benoît-du-Sault. Marie-Anne Guibert also organized an organ concert last year, bearing in mind that she is part of an amateur choir in Paris.

The book is about the author’s great-grandmother, Marie-Anne Guibert, in which she rehabilitates this woman, whose life has been somewhat obscured, say “shunned” by the family.

“I had some documents about Fatma, my great-grandmother, which is why I wanted to rehabilitate this woman with this book, which tells the exceptional fate of this child found in the heart of a raid, in 1845 , during the conquest of Algeria ”, explained Marie-Anne Guibert.

The author, who pays tribute to her great-grandmother, specifies that Fatma had lost her whole family and was left alone at the age of 5. She was rescued by a French army captain who brought her back to France and handed her over to her sister. The rest is to be discovered in the book. Fatma’s exceptional destiny is very well summed up in a 200-page book, illustrated with family photos. It will be presented on Saturday, October 9, at the village hall of Saint-Civran, at 4.30 p.m., by the author, hosted by the local association Familles Rurales and in particular its president, Isabelle Dubrac.

The book will be on sale during the presentation and at Mme Guibert’s for 15€. Contact: Marie-Anne Guibert, tel. 06.16.68.49.65.
