After several months without a concrete response to the FAF, Sami Tlemçani finally broke the silence about his choice to join the Moroccan national team instead of taking over the post of goalkeeper in the Algerian Fennecs’ goals.

Only 17 years old, the young goalkeeper of England side Chelsea, has chosen to represent Morocco, his home country on the maternal side. Samy Tlemçani therefore responded to the call of the Atlas Lions coach, declining the offer of Djamel Belmadi to take over from the two goalkeepers Mbolhi and Oukidja, aged 35 and 33, both arrived at the end of their respective careers.

Indeed, the current Premier League keeper preferred to wear the colors of his mother’s country, categorically refusing all the offers of the Algerian Football Federation, which according to some would have taken too long to decide to contact the young man’s father. man to wear the Algerian jersey, thus leaving the field open to competition.

A decision not so categorical as that

Despite a final choice which fell on Morocco and of which Samy declares to be proud, the goalkeeper would nevertheless have strongly considered at a certain time to play alongside the fennecs during the next World Cup, as is the case of several other players of great reputation.

The goalkeeper would even have expressed his indirect desire on social networks to join the Algerian national team, something that the FAF did not know how to take advantage of having intervened too late, only after the latter had already given his agreement to the representation of Morocco.
