A Peruvian deputy has confirmed the cancellation by Morocco of a donation of 150,000 tons of fertilizer products intended for his country. A measure is taken in response to the recognition, on September 15 by President Pedro Castillo, of the “SADR”. “An act of commitment was signed, of goodwill, for the support that Morocco was going to give us in the face of the crisis that this government generated with the failed purchases of fertilizers. Morocco, which is one of the main producers of this product, not only offered the offer (but) immediately executed the shipment of part of the 150,000 tons of fertilizer”, revealed the deputy José Cueto of the People’s Renovation party, in statements to a local media.

“The order was given to the Kingdom of Morocco and there was a ship which should arrive with 50,000 tons, and another which was on its way to reaching Callao (a port city, editor’s note) at the end of September”, he said. He underlines. Indeed, on August 26, a correspondence between the former Peruvian Minister of Agricultural Development, Andrés Alencastre, and his ex-colleague in Foreign Affairs,  Miguel Rodriguez Mackay, mentioned the Moroccan donation. The letter, consulted by Yabiladi, related to the communication “as soon as possible” to the Moroccan party of the “details of the technical characteristics of the fertilizers” requested by Peru in order to accelerate “the operationalization of the reception of the offer promised by the kingdom.

The parliamentarian Cueto affirmed that the decision taken by the Peruvian president to re-establish relations with the “SADR”, has turned everything upside down. The ship carrying the first cargo of 50,000 “had to turn back”, he lamented. The deputy also reiterated his party’s rejection of reconnecting with “an entity that the UN does not recognize”. “A recognition that has absolutely no benefit for our country. Worse, it created a serious conflict for us with another friendly country and several countries in the Arab world, starting with Morocco,” he added.

As a reminder,  a Moroccan source revealed, on September 26 in statements to Yabiladi, the cancellation of the 150,000 tons of fertilizer promised to Peru. Foreign Minister César Landa will appear on October 21 before the plenary of the House of Representatives to explain President Castillo’s decision to establish diplomatic relations with the “SADR”. The request presented by the People’s Renovation party has, in fact, had the support of 25 signatures necessary to demand the appearance of the head of the diplomacy.
