Algerian Film Wins Grand Prize at Maghreb Film Festival in Morocco

Algerian cinema distinguished itself at the Maghreb Film Festival in Morocco. Indeed, the film Jennia by director Abdelkrim Bahloul won the Grand Prize at the 11th edition of the festival organized in Oujda, which closed on the evening of Wednesday, October 12.

After the good harvest last year on the occasion of the 10th edition of the Maghreb Film Festival in Morocco, with two distinctions (the Grand Prize for the best film in the “feature films” category and the Prize for the best screenplay in the “short films” category) [1], Algerian cinema is doing it again on the occasion of the 11th edition which took place from October 7 to 12, 2022 in the city of Oujda.

Indeed, the Algerian feature film “Jennia”, directed by Abdelkrim Bahloul, won the Grand Prize at the 11th edition of the Maghreb Film Festival of Oujda. “We are proud to have awarded the Grand Prix of the Maghreb Film Festival to the feature film Jennia by Abdelkrim Bahloul “, announced this Thursday, October 13 on his Facebook page the Algerian director Bachir Derrais [2], member of the festival jury.

In the same feature film category, the jury of this competition, chaired by Burkinabe director Ardiouma Soma, awarded the prize for best screenplay to Moroccan filmmaker Rachid El Ouali for his film ” Coup de tampon “, while the prize for the best achievement went to the Tunisian film ” Moez: the end of the tunnel ” by Mohamed-Ali Nahdi.

In the short films category, the Moroccan film “ En route ” by Munir Abbar won the Grand Prize, while the prize for best screenplay went to the Tunisian film “ Mandate ” by Samir Harbaoui. The prize for best director was awarded to Moroccan Ouijdane Khallid for her short film “ Tender threads ”, while the Mandate ” by Samir Harbaoui. The organizers of this festival, which took place at the Mohammed VI theater in Oujda, also honored several North African artists who have marked the cultural scene with their works. These include Algerian actress Malika Belbey, Moroccan poet Sameh Darouich and Moroccan actress Fadila Benmoussa.
