OVHcloud, the European cloud leader, announced at the 2024 edition of GITEX AFRICA Morocco the opening of its first Local Zone in Africa, planned for the coming months in Rabat. This initiative highlights OVHcloud’s investment in Africa to offer trusted cloud solutions.

Launch in Morocco: A Key Deployment Strategy

This announcement marks an important step in OVHcloud’s strategy to expand its services in Africa. The partnership with Maroc Datacenter, a specialist in data centers in Morocco, is crucial. Maroc Datacenter will also help OVHcloud in the marketing of its offers in Morocco. Future deployments are planned in South Africa, Kenya, and Tunisia by 2025.

Impact on the Moroccan Digital Ecosystem

Abderrahmane Mounir, President of Maroc Datacenter, said this partnership will elevate the Moroccan digital ecosystem, by offering cloud services with localized data and low latency. This project is supported by Orange Morocco, which will provide the necessary connectivity.

Global Expansion of Local Zones

OVHcloud aims to open up to 150 Local Zones by 2026, using Edge Computing technology to deploy infrastructures close to customers. The new Local Zone in Rabat will offer Moroccan customers rapid access to Public Cloud services with reduced latency and local data hosting.

Moroccan customers will benefit from the proximity of data, essential for sectors such as consulting, financial services, and health. Latency-sensitive services, like real-time analytics and cloud gaming, will have improved response times, often in milliseconds.

Features and Certifications

Local Zones will offer Public Cloud services such as Compute, Block Storage, and networking with local public IP, and additional services such as Object Storage and Managed Rancher Service for Kubernetes. They are ISO/IEC 27001, ISO/IEC 27017, and ISO/IEC 27018 certified, guaranteeing the highest security standards.
