NIAMEY- The meeting of Libya’s neighbouring countries shows the “commitment” of the countries of the region to achieving the political process, said Wednesday in Niamey deputy president of Libya’s Presidential Council of the Government of National Accord Moussa al-Koun.
In his speech at the ninth meeting of Libya’s neighbouring countries, al-Kouni called on the involved parties to hold the next session of the mechanism in Tripoli.
Al-Kouni said that he was fully convinced that his country cannot cope with the different challenges without the cooperation of the international community, adding that the most important for the time being is to “cease” any contact with parallel institutions to the Government of National Accord, which is the sole legitimate government in Libya, in accordance with several international resolutions, particularly the Security Council’s resolutions 2259 and 2278.
As regards the fight against terrorism, al-Kouni underlined that the forces under the Presidential Council have made significant progress through huge sacrifices.
However, he added, the counterterrorism process in Libya “is still long and requires further joint efforts to eradicate this scourge.”
“There could be no security, peace or development with the presence of terrorist groups,” he stressed.
