Travelers on board Air Algérie planes must comply with the company’s new baggage policy, which came into force on Sunday, October 29. From now on, they are only allowed one piece of checked baggage, weighing 23 kg.

Air Algérie has in fact decided to move from the concept of holding baggage by weight to that of baggage in pieces, which means that passengers are only allowed one piece of 23 kg in economy class.

Air Algérie: only one bag of 23 kg is allowed, here are the prices for the excess

To add one or two additional bags to the hold, the passenger must pay the excess. The same goes for the extra weight, exceeding the authorized 23 kg. The additional weight beyond 23 kg must not exceed a maximum of 32 kg.

In terms of prices, passengers departing from France, Italy, Spain, Germany, Belgium, Austria and Portugal must pay €80 for an additional piece of less than 23 kg and €150 for a second additional piece weighing less than 23 kg.

The price of excess baggage, for additional kilograms between 23 and 32 kg, is €50. This price is applicable whether in the first recorded item included in the ticket or the additional recorded item. (Here are the new rates  on excess baggage in detail  )

In his case, he took three bags in the hold, so he had to pay for the two additional suitcases. The amounts he paid at the airport are expressed in Algerian dinars, especially since his flight departed from Algeria.

“If you have baggage weighing 28 kg, for example, you have an excess of 5 kg over the authorized allowance of 23 kg. In this case, you will pay a flat rate of 7,500 DZD,” he explains straight away.

Please note that on flights departing from France, this rate is €50, and it is applicable to any excess weight between 23 and 32 kg.

“In my case, I have three suitcases in the hold. Two weighing 17 kg each and one weighing 11 kg,” adds the passenger. So, he checked the first 17 kg bag for free, but he had to pay for the other two additional bags.

“For the two additional bags of 17 and 11 kg, I paid 12,000 DZD each, which cost me a total of 24,000 DZD,” he explains. According to him, regardless of the weight of the additional suitcase, the passenger departing from Algeria must pay 12,000 DZD for each added suitcase.

“Pay attention to the weight of your luggage and only take the essentials, because there is no point in paying the excess for unnecessary luggage,” concludes the Air Algérie traveler.
