Protesters chanted “Normalization is a hoax” and “Down with occupation” in Casablanca

Thousands of people demonstrated in Casablanca against the “massacres” in the Gaza Strip and against the normalization of the country’s relations with Israel.

The demonstration which took place late at night and early Saturday morning – the last large gathering of its type in Morocco – was organized by the Islamist group Al Adl Wal Ihssane. This group also organized similar rallies in the capital Rabat and at the port of Tangier.

The protests mark the last Friday of the holy fasting month of Ramadan and the Day of Quds (Jerusalem), during which annual rallies in support of the Palestinians, backed by Iran, are held across the region.

Protesters chanted “Normalization is a hoax” and “Down with occupation” in Casablanca, as the war between Israel and Palestinian terror group Hamas is about to enter its seventh month. Morocco established diplomatic ties with Israel at the end of 2020 under the Abraham Accords negotiated by the United States, following the example of the United Arab Emirates and Bahrain.
