A new level in the Moroccan-Spanish crisis. Morocco has recalled its ambassador to Madrid, Karima Benyaich for consultations. Here is what she said before leaving Madrid.

The crisis between the two countries, born of the admission of Brahim Ghali to Spain under a false identity, is worsening.

Between Sunday evening and Tuesday, several thousand migrants, mostly Moroccan, entered the Sebta enclave, at least 6,000, even 10,000 according to credible Spanish media sources.

1,500 of them were expelled on Tuesday. At least a thousand have declared themselves to be minors.

The Spanish Foreign Ministry summoned the Moroccan ambassador Karima Benyaich on Tuesday. Nothing filtered out of the exchange.

However, Ms. Benyaich gave an interesting statement to Europa Press: She felt that in relations between countries, there are acts which have consequences, “and they must be assumed” in a thinly veiled reference to the decision of Spain to provide medical care to the Polisario leader, reports Europa Press.

According to the same source, Ms. Benyaich added that there are “attitudes that cannot be accepted”.

“Relations between neighboring countries and friends must be based on ‘mutual trust’, which must be worked on and nurtured,” she said.

This Tuesday at the end of the day, Médias24 learned from a reliable source that Ambassador Karima Benyaich had been recalled to Rabat for consultations. This reminder came a few minutes after the arrival of Pedro Sanchez in Sebta and also after Ms. Benyaich’s meeting with the Spanish Minister of Foreign Affairs.

In 2007, Morocco recalled its ambassador to Madrid on the occasion of the visit of King Juan Carlos and Queen Sofía, to Sebta and Melilia.
