Morocco: Nador Welcomes a Chinese Wind Power Giant

The Chinese group Aeolon, specializing in the manufacture of wind turbine blades, launched construction work on its factory in Nador on Tuesday, the group’s first abroad. It will have a production capacity of 600 wind turbine blades per year and is expected to generate more than 3,000 jobs.

The factory will be built on an area of ​​50 hectares in the Betoya export processing zone and should be operational by January 2025. The Chinese group will invest 220 million euros (around 2.3 billion dirhams) for the establishment of this factory in Nador, its first outside China, thus contributing to the economic development of the region.

“The first major investment next to the new port of Nador West Med, this new facility will be the largest of its type in the Euro-African zone,” said Mohcine Jazouli, Minister Delegate in charge of Investment, Convergence, and the evaluation of public policies, during the official launching ceremony of the work, specifying that this project is one of the most important that the National Investment Commission has approved since the entry into force of the new Charter of the investment in March 2023.

Aeolon announced on November 21, six months after the creation of its subsidiary Aeolon Renewable Energy Morocco and the opening of an office in Nador, the construction of this factory which should produce 600 wind turbine blades each year intended for the markets. from Europe, Africa, and the Middle East.

The Chinese giant chose to set up in Morocco because of its strategic geographical position, because it is “connected to the markets of the European Union, the Middle East, and Africa”, and “its stable economic environment” which “attracts a large number of foreign investments”. The strong commitment of Moroccan authorities to the development of renewable energies, as well as the quality workforce available locally, also pushed Aeolon to invest in the kingdom, says the Chinese group.
