While Belmadi’s departure was announced following the termination of his contract, the Algerian coach returned to his departure

Belmadi wants more money

Wednesday evening, the president of the Algerian Football Federation, Walid Sadi, announced that he had reached an amicable agreement with Djamel Belmadi to terminate his coaching contract. However, the situation took an unexpected turn.

The day after Algeria’s elimination in the African Cup of Nations group stage, Sadi tweeted the termination of Belmadi’s contract, praising his contributions. According to La Gazette du Fennec, the former coach would have accepted compensation of two month’s salary or more than 400,000 euros.

The premature timing of the discussions on his successor would have motivated Belmadi’s retraction. Despite a meeting planned to finalize the end of his mandate, he reportedly requested compensation much higher than the two months’ salary initially agreed.

The contract linking Belmadi to the Algerian Football Federation has yet to be officially terminated. Despite the non-payment of two monthly payments due to exchange constraints, Belmadi seems determined to obtain more substantial compensation.
