A child died on Wednesday near the Beni-Ensar border with Melilla, while trying to access the Spanish enclave with his father to receive treatment. In a brief statement, the Spanish government delegation in Melilla expressed its condolences to the family of the deceased child and made itself available “in these painful times”.

Sources consulted by Melilla Hoy explained that the tragedy occurred in the afternoon, when a man, the father of the minor, arrived at the border with the child to try to access Melilla so that he can receive health care. The events occurred at a time of heavy border traffic, as there was a long line of vehicles as part of Operation Marhaba/Strait Crossing (OPE) 2022.

The man, of Spanish nationality, like his son, tried to reach the city quickly but the child was already in critical condition. The young boy died despite attempts to resuscitate him
