In terms of basic products, Morocco is a major supplier to West African countries. The Kingdom responds to their demand especially for fresh fruits and vegetables, and at affordable prices.

Mauritanian fruit and vegetable traders have regained a good mood following the reopening of the El Guerguerat area. This is understandable if we know that Morocco is the main supplier of basic foodstuffs to Mauritania, and this, at reasonable prices, indicates L’Économiste.

Over the past two decades, the sector has undergone an evolution that facilitated an average annual growth of 15% over the period 2007-2015. This trend accelerated thereafter and currently, the offer has widened to potatoes, onions, tomatoes, carrots, turnips, green beans, peppers, and others, underlines the daily.

Flours, semolina, and agglomerates of cereals, extracts, and essences of coffee or tea, and cheeses remain the most demanded products in the food industry. In this sense, the kingdom gives priority to solidarity through its competitive prices, in conjunction with the purchasing power of the recipient countries including Senegal, Mali, Guinea, Ghana, and The Gambia, treated as priorities.

If these products are also present in Libya, Tunisia, and Burkina Faso, they are almost impossible to find in South Africa and Angola, because of “the multiplicity of national borders, the costs of transactions and the weakness of infrastructure and logistics,” explains the newspaper, indicating that to improve the situation, it will be necessary” to target the trading partners according to the potentialities of their market, to improve the regulatory framework of the agreements of trade and investment concluded with the countries of the region, adapt the Moroccan offer to their specialties, strengthen commercial logistics with them and coordinate the action strategies of public authorities with private operators.”
