Morocco: the French consul in Tangier found dead at the consulate’s residence

Denis François, Consul General of France in Tangier, was found dead this Thursday, November 19 at the residence of the consulate. The sad news was first announced on a Moroccan news site late in the morning, before being confirmed by a tweet from the French Embassy in Rabat.

The Consul General of France in Tangier, Denis François, was found dead at the residence of the consulate. The diplomat’s lifeless body was discovered by his colleagues in his room around 7:00 am; this Thursday.

An investigation was opened by the Public Prosecutor’s Office, it is currently being carried out by the General Directorate of National Security, was opened on the spot to determine the circumstances of his death. The French Embassy has also sent its internal security agent to Tangier, in order to collaborate with the Moroccan authorities.

As of yet, the circumstances of his death have still not been clarified. A source at the French Embassy in Morocco says that no leads have been ruled out, without giving further details.

The disappearance of Denis François comes a little more than two months after his appointment, by decree, at the head of the consulate of Tangier. Aged 55, he had held various administrative and advisory positions for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Paris.
