The President of the Spanish government, Pedro Sanchez, made his second visit to the Shereef kingdom, this Wednesday, February 21, since the great reconciliation of 2022 between Spain and Morocco. Until recently, diplomatic relations between the two countries were more than cold, with the position concerning Western Sahara as the main point of contention. This Wednesday, the Spanish Prime Minister was expected in Rabat, invited to meet King Mohammed VI. The Alawite sovereign received the president of the government in an audience at the royal palace. The discussions were fruitful, as Pedro Sanchez revealed during a press conference he held afterward. “Relations between the two countries have reached important levels and talks with the King of Morocco covered many areas of cooperation. ” Concerning Western Sahara, Pedro Sanchez’s speech is now that “  Spain supports the serious and realistic Moroccan proposal to resolve the conflict”.

The media Hespress indicates that Pedro Sanchez did not fail to deliver the personal greetings of King Felipe VI to King Mohammed VI. During the interview, many points were on the agenda. It was particularly about the customs situation in Ceuta and Melilla, two Spanish African cities, landlocked in Morocco with access to the Mediterranean. They also discussed cooperation in the fight against crime, the situation in Palestine, and the migration agreement with Mauritania. Finally, the last item on the agenda was the organization of the Football World Cup. In 2030, the World Cup will be jointly organized by three countries: Spain, Portugal, and Morocco.

In addition to the meeting with King Mohammed VI, Pedro Sanchez also had a meeting with the Moroccan Prime Minister, Aziz Akhannouch. King Mohammed VI then offered Pedro Sanchez and his accompanying Spanish delegation lunch. Aziz Akhannouch as well as the Moroccan Minister of Foreign Affairs, Nasser Bourita, the Moroccan Ambassador to Spain, Karima Benaich, and the Moroccan Minister of the Interior, Abdelouafi Laftit, participated in this lunch. Also invited were the President of the House of Representatives, Rachid Talbi Alami, and the Moroccan ambassador to Spain, Karima Benaich.
