Moroccan carriers: Morocco is putting pressure on Spain

Spain’s implementation of the fuel franchise, which heavily penalizes Moroccan carriers, has made the Kingdom react. It has just put in place intelligent reciprocity measures.

In the name of a new note signed by the Directorate of Special Import-Export Operations at the Port of Tangier-Med, Spanish trucks which do not have a certificate of partnership with a Moroccan company are no longer allowed to enter the national territory.

From now on, any Spanish truck not respecting this condition will have to unload its cargo and return to Spain immediately. It is an opportunity for Moroccan trucks to take over. In addition, on the condition of the partnership certificate, another is added: trailers and trucks from Spain must necessarily have original documents. Simple photocopies of documents previously allowed are no longer accepted.

It should be noted that the new measure implemented by Morocco is completely legal. This is the implementation of the Moroccan-Spanish bilateral agreement, signed in 2012 and not activated, at the request of Spain, stipulating that the cargoes of Spanish trucks must rigorously meet all the provisions of the agreement, at the risk of turning back to their country of origin. Morocco has just reactivated this law.
