World leader in the battery sector for electric cars, China, supported by the Moroccan government, has developed production capacities covering the entire value chain.

Morocco is home to giants like Stellantis and Renault, producing 700,000 vehicles per year. Its potential to become an electric battery giant is largely stimulated by Chinese investments, writes the Nouvelle Tribune.

Here are some of them:

Hailiang and Shinzoom companies announced the construction of two automobile battery factories for around $1 billion.

Zhejiang Hailiang plans to set up a copper factory on 30 hectares, with an investment of 450 million dollars.

Shinzoom wants to spend $460 million on an anode factory that will cover 20 hectares.

In addition:

The Moroccan government gave the green light, in April 2024, to BTR New Material Group for the creation of a cathode production plant near Tangier ($497 million investment).

CNGR Advanced Material plans to build a cathode factory in Jorf Lasfar.

Gotion High-Tech plans an electric battery factory ($6.3 billion).
