France: Daughter of Algerian Immigrants, Farida Khelfa Wins the 2024 Vaudeville Prize

Created in 2004, at the initiative of a Paris brasserie, the Vaudeville Prize, formerly the Coupole Prize, is a French literary award, granted each year, dedicated to a novel, story, or collection of short stories, which demonstrates spirit.

The Vaudeville Prize award ceremony, for the year 2024, took place last Monday, June 10. The trophy for the new edition was awarded to Farida KHelfa, for her autobiography โ€œEnfance franรงaiseโ€.

Former director, model, and documentary film producer, the multi-talented artist Farida Khelfa won the 2024 Vaudeville Prize on Monday for her work โ€œFrench Childhoodโ€โ€”a new distinction that adds to the extensive track record of this fashion figure.

โ€œEnfance franรงaiseโ€, an autobiography published by Albin Michel in January 2024, succeeds Raphaรซl Haroche and will be featured in the window of the Vaudeville brasserie for a year. By winning this new edition, she also receives 5,000 euros.

Furthermore, in this book, Farida Khelfa looks back on a childhood shattered by violence and immerses herself in a time so far from her adult life. It recounts the childhood of a little girl in a family of Algerian immigrants, petrified women and men broken by illiteracy and colonization.

Farida Khelfa is not only focused on this dark period of her life. It tells the story of a girl who knew how to invent herself, recreate herself, and find a place for herself in a new world, driven by extraordinary resilience.

Who is Farida Khelfa?

Born to Algerian parents, Farida Khelfa grew up in the Minguettes city in Lyon. She leaves this city to try her luck in Paris and discover a new world. Proclaimed the first โ€œrevenueโ€ model from the suburbs, she made a place for herself with Christian Louboutin, Eva Ionesco, and Vincent Darrรฉ to form โ€œthe little gang of the palaceโ€.

In addition to modeling, Farida Khelfa is also a documentary director and producer. Moreover, she has signed several documentaries on her friends Jean-Paul Gaultier and Christian Louboutin. But also, behind the scenes of Nicolas Sarkozy’s electoral campaign and the Arab revolutions.
