After several months of tension because of the qualifying match at the 2022 World Cup, Algeria and Cameroon are giving up

The president of the Cameroon Football Federation, Samuel Eto’o, landed this Sunday, January 15 in Algeria to attend CHAN 2022, which kicked off last Friday, and will last until February 4.

Upon his arrival in Algiers, the president of Fécafoot was welcomed by the president of the CHAN organizing committee, Rachid Oukali, who is also a member of the board of the Algerian Football Federation.

The very warm embrace between the two men is a sign of the return to normal between the two federations. The hatchet is buried.

The former legend of FC Barcelona will travel to Oran in stride to attend the match of the Cameroonian selection which faces Congo on Monday, January 16 at the Miloud Hadefi complex in Oran.

Approached by journalists on his arrival in Algiers, Samuel Eto’o made strong statements that prove that the tensions generated by the play-off match last March are no longer relevant.

Strong statements by Samuel Eto’o

“I never betray my friends. Algeria has always been at the side of Cameroon when we were going through a difficult moment during the CAN 2019 in Cameroon. And it is the duty of the president of the Cameroonian Football Federation to be, in return, on the side of the president of the FAF”, declared the president of Fécafoot.

The statements made by Samuel Eto’o serve as official support from Cameroon for the Algerian candidacy for the organization of CAN 2025.

Cameroon is represented on the executive board of the Confederation of African Football and is therefore one of the voters for the award of CAN 2025.

“Football is there to help, not to divide. And we’re not going to change that story. The president that I am must return the elevator to the president (of the Algerian Federation) because he was at the side of Cameroon when we needed support,” added Samuel Eto’o.

Algeria can therefore count on the support of Cameroon in its quest to organize CAN 2025 where it faces competition in particular from Morocco which is doing lobbying work in the corridors of CAF through its federation president Fouzi Lekjaa, a member of the executive bureau of the pan-African body too.
