A year ago, Algeria and Qatar launched an executive program to strengthen their cooperation in the field of education. This program paved the way for multiple agreements between higher education establishments in the two countries.

The University of Doha for Science and Technology (UDST) has signed 10 partnership and twinning agreements with universities and colleges in Algeria. The agreements in the field of higher education and scientific research relate to “the exchange of pupils and students, in addition to the search for opportunities to strengthen research capable of serving the economy of the two countries  ” , said the rector of the Qatari university Mr. Al-Naemi.

These agreements come as Algeria and Qatar seek to intensify their cooperation. In February 2022, the two countries signed agreements in various fields including higher education. the agreement on higher education concerned the second executive program in higher education and scientific and technological research under the agreement on cooperation in the educational and scientific fields between the governments of the two countries for the school years ( 2022-2025).

Among other areas, cooperation between the University of Doha and Algerian institutions will focus on the development of food security. With a technological and scientific vocation, the Qatari university will also provide its partners with the benefit of its expertise in artificial intelligence, cybersecurity and data science.

This new operation confirms once again the desire for internationalization of Algerian universities. Which internationalization is most often materialized by the signing of agreements with foreign institutions. According to Mr. Tahar Sahraoui, director of cooperation and university exchange at the Algerian Ministry of Higher Education, his ministerial department has already supervised 75 twinning agreements between Algerian and foreign university establishments, in 6 months.
