Algiers — The ninth International Comic Strip Festival of Algiers (FIBDA) opened Tuesday with the participation of some forty countries and nine Algerian specialized publishing houses.

Held under the slogan “9th balloon for the 9th art,” the event has devoted its largest stand to Italy, the guest of honour, which presents the exhibition “FUMETTI for Everybody.”

The opening ceremony was attended by Minister of Culture Azeddine Mihoubi, who paid visit to the stands representing the participating countries, including Mexico, which is taking part in the FIBDA for the first time ever.

Works of young comic artist winners of the previous editions have been honoured through the exhibitions “Manga DZ,” “Constantine 1836,” the triangle “Cuba-Brussels-Algiers” and “Africa’s New Colours.”

The ninth edition of the FIBDA, ranked as the first comic trip festival in Africa and the Arab world, is dedicated to comic artist Rachid Ait Kaci, called “Kaci,” who passed away last May.
