Jean-Yves Le Drian, Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, and Bruno Le Maire, Minister of Economy and Finance, will co-chair, on behalf of France, the 4th session of the French-Algerian Joint Economic Committee in Algiers on Sunday, November 12.
This session will provide an opportunity to review the economic situation and French and Algerian economic and financial policies. The ministers will discuss the development of bilateral economic relations and its contribution to the diversification of the Algerian economy, as well as the prospects for the French-Algerian industrial partnership.
During this session, they will meet with Abdelkader Messahel, Algerian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Youcef Yousfi, Algerian Minister for Industry and Mines.
Agreements on industrial cooperation and export promotion will be signed during the session.
Jean-Yves Le Drian will also co-chair, together with his counterpart, the bilateral dialogue on political and security issues. The two ministers will review the major regional and international challenges that France and Algeria are now facing, notably the situation in Libya and the Sahel, as well as the fight against terrorism.
The discussions reflect the high quality of the political dialogue between France and Algeria and their shared determination to strengthen discussions on regional and international issues of common interest.
During their visit, the French delegation will meet with high-level Algerian officials as well as members of the government in order to jointly examine prospects for strengthening the exceptional partnership between our two countries, notably within the framework of preparations for the upcoming high-level intergovernmental committee which will be co-chaired by the two prime ministers.
With trade worth €8 billion per year, Algeria is one of France’s top economic partners on the African continent. France is also the leading investor in Algeria in the non-hydrocarbon sector representing 450 firms, 40,000 direct jobs and 100,000 indirect jobs in sectors as diverse as transport, automotive, agri-food and pharmaceuticals. Numerous projects involving major groups as well as SMEs reflect the vitality of this economic partnership, which will be reaffirmed during the session on November 12.
