Tunisia: Towards the Reactivation of the National Council for Social Dialogue

The reactivation of the National Council for Social Dialogue and the continuation of the development of bilateral and tripartite agreements concerning certain social issues and economic reforms were at the center of a meeting, held on Monday, October 3, 2022, between the Minister of Social Affairs, Malek Ezzehi, and the general secretary of the Tunisian General Labor Union (UGTT), Noureddine Taboubi.

They stressed the need to reactivate the National Council for Social Dialogue, which brings together the government, the UGTT and the Tunisian Union of Industry, Commerce and Handicrafts (UTICA), reads a press release published by the Ministry of Social Affairs.

The National Council for Social Dialogue is an official space for social negotiations, in a participatory framework that promotes the examination of issues related to employment, social security, vocational training and economic and social issues.

Ezzehi and Taboubi also agreed on the need to continue the development of bilateral or tripartite agreements concerning certain issues related to social rights and the next economic and social reforms, as approved by the Social Contract signed on August 12, 2022, by the head of government, Najla Bouden, UGTT general secretary, Noureddine Taboubi, and UTICA president, Samir Majoul.

Under this social contract, the three social partners have also agreed to hold meetings from Monday, August 15, to reach bilateral or tripartite agreements on certain social and economic issues.
